Major news networks and newspapers continue to spread fear about the recent outbreaks of seasonal flu. While the arguments rage on between pro-vaccine and anti-vaccine proponents, one thing is certain: those with robust immune systems either do not get the flu at all, or do not suffer from it as badly as those with compromised immune systems.
While the media rages on about the necessity of getting the flu vaccine, very few major news outlets have mentioned the most recent elderberry study, published on Pubmed in July 2009. The study revealed that elderberry flavinoids were “shown to inhibit H1N1 infection in vitro by binding to H1N1 virions, blocking host cell entry and/or recognition.”

Of course, elderberry products generally cost less than the vaccines, and it does not appear that any major vaccine producing corporation will be selling elderberry extract to combat the flu anytime soon. Visit Pharmacopia Herbals to take advantage of our November Sale on all elderberry products.
A blog post on a magnificent website by a woman with bone cancer revealed earlier elderberry extract studies done in 1999 and 1995, which demonstrated the extract’s effectiveness against H1N1 and other flu strains. You can read Margaret’s blog post with links to each of the previous elderberry studies by clicking here.
